The luncheon featured Bob Cochell, owner of Gulf Coast Air Systems, as guest speaker. Bob is past president of the statewide Florida Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors Association, has served on the Florida Energy Technical Advisory Committee for a number of years, is an avid pilot and a missionary.

Bob spoke on various topics ranging from what refrigerants are being considered for the future, the International Code Council (ICC) new construction requirements and Florida Building Code exceptions to the ICC and the importance of selecting equipment based on sensible heat ratio at operating conditions to ensure proper performance. Bob also emphasized doing Manual-J calculations on every change-out because homeowners are upgrading to high-e windows at a rate of 135,000 to 190,000 per year. “That change to the windows may reduce the load on a house by a ton,” Bob stated. “Size your equipment using the expanded data in the ARI calculations. The sensible heat ratio is more important than total capacity or efficiency to control organic growth.”

The coming year’s officers are President Ken Zalk of Harper Limbaugh, Vice President Pat Ambrose of Ambrose Air and Secretary Treasurer Yolanda Pizarro of Energy Air. They are joined by directors Brian Hastings of 4 Seasons Heating and AC, Tony Duncan and Mark Jacobs of York, John Green of Green’s Energy Services and Andy Brunkala of Air Tech and Chairman of the Board Pete Zeitler of Energy Air.

Members of the Apprenticeship, Events, Membership and Budget committees were also introduced.
