Marketair Redesigns RoughinBox with More Versatility for the N.A. Minisplit and VRF Installation Market

November 03, 2018

Marketair Inc., an Edison, N.J.-based supplier of specialized HVAC industry components and accessories, introduces the RoughinBox™ RBX-3, a versatile redesign of the original RoughinBox for minisplit/VRF/VRV applications. The RBX-3 now includes an extra lineset port and accommodates both side and bottom drain configurations.

The patented RBX-3-MP-NC (Multiple Port-New Construction) is a third generation RoughinBox combining the bottom drain outlet of the RBX-1 and the side outlet of the RBX-2, which offers total installation flexibility for contractors and reduced sku’s for wholesalers. The additional lineset port brings the total to five (two on top, one on each side, and one on the bottom) which can now accommodate lineset entry from any direction.

The RBX-3 also features four redesigned mounting brackets that are pre notched for use with metal studs, thereby eliminating the need to modify the metal studs during installation, which was a characteristic of the previous models.

The high density, blow-molded, black polyethylene RoughinBox is seamless and waterproof. It expedites minisplit and VRF/VRV evaporator rough-in time by creating a stable central point with dedicated ports for linesets, condensate hose and electrical/communication cabling to safely and easily enter and terminate. Once the RoughinBox is installed, piped and wired; the surrounding wall area is ready for sheetrock installation, followed by painting, then final installation and commissioning of the evaporator.

The RBX-3’s dimensions are 14.5 (L) x 8 (H) x 3.5 (D)-inch (370 x 180 x 89-mm), but still include ample room to conceal a condensate pump and reservoir, when gravity draining isn’t possible.

Rough-in boxes have been available for many years in European and South American ductless markets. However, the RBX-3 is the only rough-in box designed specifically to conform with the building norms and code requirements unique to the North American residential and commercial construction markets.

Other RoughinBox features include:

  • One-year warranty;
  • Side discharge condensate outlet facilitates evaporator installations over windows and doors where bottom discharge is not possible;
  • Removable rear panel provides an optional access opening for maintenance, replacements or repairs;
  • A 3/4-inch (19-mm) MPT threaded drain outlet facilitates connection to 3/4-inch PVC or copper drain lines;
  • Protects drain line inlet from dust and debris blockages and promotes post-construction installation to minimize evaporator coil cleanup and expedite commissioning.

The RoughinBox is available at many North American HVAC/R wholesale distributors. For more information on the RoughinBox or other innovative Marketair HVAC products, please visit www.marketair.com, call (732) 985-8226 or email info@marketair.com.
