11th Annual GACCA Golf and Fishing Tournament Hampered by Weather

December 10, 2019

Inclement weather put a damper on the 11th Annual Gainesville Air Conditioning Contractors Association (GACCA) Golf and Fishing Tournament held October 19 – 20, 2019 at the Plantation Inn Golf Resort and Spa in Crystal River, FL.

Only three boats braved the rain and winds Saturday to compete in the fishing tournament while six teams of golfers managed to play their 18 holes during breaks in the weather.

The golfing results were: 1st Place – Chase Arnold, Kenny B, George Poultney and Greg Purvis, 2nd Place – Chad Howell, Jim and Colby Fulton and John Albrandt and 3rd Place – Howard Montgomery, Tom and Max Gibbons and Steve Sosnoski. There were four Closest to the Pin awards: Tom Gibbons, Ken Hogle, Chase Arnold and Charlie Bourg. Greg Purvis took Longest Putt honors and Coby Fulton was recognized for the Straightest Drive.

Only one boat returned with fish and Chris Winkel won the biggest redfish award with a whopper weighing 2.3 lbs. Chris also won the trash fish award with a.3 lb ladyfish.

“It’s great to see everyone that turned out this year,” stated Master of Ceremonies Mark Hurm. “We enjoy the opportunity to get together and once again, have our kids with us. We’ve seen them grow up over the past ten years. Obviously, this year the weather hasn’t cooperated but I think we’ve been spoiled by how nice it’s been for the past ten years. Thank you to everyone for contributing and attending and a special thank you to the organizers of this event, Chessie Flanders, Steve Jeppson and Bill Hogle.”

Bill Hogle announced his “retirement” as golf coordinator but agreed to mentor whoever takes over.

A portion of the funds raised through sponsorships and the raffle is donated each year to local charities including Crime Stoppers, United Way and the Santa Fe HVAC program.

The following sponsors received special recognition: Platinum: Florida Credit Union, MID-FLA Htg & Air, and Trane; Gold: Hogles Heat & Air and Johnstone Supply Ware Group; Silver: Baker Distributing, Bounds Htg & Air, Comfort Temp Florida Cooling Supply, CE/Carrier and Goodman; Bronze: Futch’s Marine Depot, Tropic Supply, Miller’s Boating Center and Workman’s Comp.
