As a leading wholesale distributor of HVAC products and solutions, Mingledorff’s Distributors celebrates the tenth anniversary of major acquisitions in Alabama and the Gulf Coast. The company acquired the assets of Equipment Sales Corporation, as well as the rights to distribute Bryant HVAC equipment in Alabama and the Gulf Coast on November 1st, 2009. These acquisitions significantly expanded Mingledorff’s footprint after 70 years of successful service to HVAC contractors in Georgia and a portion of South Carolina.

Mingledorff’s promptly went to work integrating and listening to customers, employees and vendors. The company has a longstanding legacy of customer focus, employee advocacy and strong vendor relationships dating back to its origin in 1939. This legacy and culture served as the foundation for an unprecedented cycle of growth which has now been churning forward and upward for a decade.

The cycle began with Mingledorff’s leadership listening to customers, employees and vendors. The company then made changes and investments based on these stakeholder insights. Employees responded by working harder and smarter. Customers responded by choosing to buy more from Mingledorff’s. This growth enabled the company leadership to make even more investments in people, programs and facilities to better serve customers, which fed the growth cycle even more.

Mingledorff’s has remodeled, relocated or expanded 100% of the facilities acquired in 2009, with some locations having multiple upgrades over the last 10 years. In addition to upgrading the acquired locations, Mingledorff’s opened “greenfield” stores in the Alabama cities of Anniston, Dothan and Auburn to bring products, service and training closer to customers. The total investment in facilities to better serve customers in the new territory was over $17 million, and it continues to grow with a new, relocated store set to open in Mobile, AL in early 2020.

There was also significant investments and advancements to grow the Commercial business in the new territory. This started in earnest in 2011 when Mingledorff’s acquired the George Wheelock Company, a 123-year-old Birmingham-based company serving the entire state of Alabama. This strategic acquisition added well-respected employees and commercial product lines to the growing business in the new territory. This was followed by the addition of ductless and VRF product lines later that same year. In 2014, Mingledorff’s subsidiary, Commercial Controls Group, expanded into the Gulf Coast, providing commercial HVAC controls and services to complement the commercial equipment offerings. Then, in 2016, Carrier Corporation took notice of the growth of commercial sales and capabilities and responded by awarding Mingledorff’s with the rights to exclusively distribute their applied products (e.g. chillers, customer air-handlers, etc.) in the Gulf Coast region.

The acquisitions of 2009 initiated a decade of growth and success for many contractors, dealers and vendors in Alabama and the Gulf Coast. Mingledorff’s has offered over 50,000 hours of contractor training in the new territory and certified more NATE technicians than any other organization. Additionally, the company has invested over $23 million in dealer development and marketing programs in the last ten years in the acquired regions. The success these acquisitions is best showcased by the fact that the sales of the new territory have more than tripled since 2009 and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
