Memphis-based American Residential Services/Rescue Rooter, whose network of members provide HVAC, plumbing, and indoor air quality services to homeowners nationwide, has announced that many of its member companies are offering a home air purification technology proven to kill 99% of the virus that causes COVID-19 on surfaces.

Through the firm’s partnership with Aerus, the global leader in surface and air purification services, more than 40 contractors within the ARS network offer Air Scrubber, a home air purification product that attaches directly to a home HVAC system’s ductwork. The equipment uses Aerus’s ActivePure® technology, developed by Aerus in partnership with NASA to protect the astronauts on the International Space Station.

The ActivePure technology enables the Air Scrubber to not only disinfect and purify the air, but also surfaces. The technology converts free oxygen and water molecules into oxidizers that are released back into the room. These molecules continuously seek out and destroy the room’s pathogens and contaminants, including viruses, bacteria, mold, and other allergens. The technology also helps eliminate odors.

According to the company, the technology destroys over 99% of all surface and airborne contaminants, including allergy and asthma-triggering contaminants. Although it has not been scientifically proven to kill airborne SARS-CoV-2, an independent laboratory study performed on Aerus’s Hydroxyl Blaster air purifier, which uses the same ActivePure technology as the Air Scrubber, showed that the technology reduced 99.98% of the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus on surfaces.
