Bell & Gossett’s Little Red Schoolhouse Returns to Canada with Hydronic Training Seminar

MORTON GROVE, III.May 23, 2024 Bell & Gossett’s Little Red Schoolhouse, the leader in industry education, is bringing its curriculum back to Canada with a two-day hydronics training seminar, to be offered in Toronto. Hosted by Michael Licastro, manager of training and education at Xylem – Bell & Gossett, the two-day Hydronic Training Seminar will take place June 5-6 from 8 to 4 p.m. at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel and reflects Bell & Gossett’s larger Building Better Futures mission of preparing the next generation of industry professionals to design and maintain the sustainable building systems of the future. “With this offering, we acknowledge the importance of education in this region and the value of sharing our expertise with new professionals and building owners across Canada,” said Licastro. “70 years after the opening of the Little Red Schoolhouse, I’m thrilled to expand our reach across North America, providing a valuable opportunity to grow our program and connect with new individuals through our curriculum.” The two-day hydronic training seminar is free of charge and will provide a comprehensive training program aimed at wholesalers and their contractors. Attendees will receive a deep dive into the fundamentals of hydronic systems, covering topics such as thermal comfort, pump selection and system balancing. The training will include interactive sessions, case studies and practical demonstrations. Parking will be $5 per day, and breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Seminar Agenda

WhoIesaIer Day 1

  • Introduction with discussion on using hydronic systems to provide thermal comfort, including overview of combustion and non-combustion heat sources
  • Fundamentals and rules of thumb: Determining required flow rates, pipe sizing, and system friction losses
  • Determining total pump head and hydronic proportional balancing strategies
  • Pump and system performance curves: What are they and how to use them for final pump selection

WhoIesaIer Day 2

  • Closed loop hydronic system air management and pressurization

o Includes example on how to size an expansion tank

  • Zoning a hydronic system using valves or pumps
  • Application of primary-secondary pumping
  • Designing a series loop for a residential application

Limited to 60 students, registration for the two-day hydronic training seminar is now open, and interested individuals can secure their spot by visiting the registration website. If class capacity is reached, a waitlist will be created for future training opportunities.

In addition to the Toronto training seminar, the Little Red Schoolhouse offers in-person classroom training at its Morton Grove, Illinois, schoolhouse and traveling classes across North America, free online learning opportunities through an upgraded online portal and downloadable training manuals.
