La Fiesta de la Calle San Sebastian (La Sanse) began in 1954 in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico as an effort by the local church to fund critical street repairs at the center of the city’s historic Viejo San Juan neighborhood. Since then, this vibrant street festival has become a favorite of locals and visitors alike. In 2017 this event celebrated its first edition in Orlando, Florida. La Sanse Takes Orlando is more than just a festival; it’s an opportunity for the Puerto Rican community to reconnect with their own traditions and culture in an immersive environment.

A cultural staple of La Sanse is the artesanía present for visitors to admire and buy. Artesanía is defined as an object or artifact made by hand that serves a function or necessity, including but not limited to decorative, spiritual or educational functions. More than 100 artisans, many traveling from Puerto Rico, exhibited their creations this year.

Music and food were two other cultural staples evident at La Sanse. A dozen favorite Puerto Rican performers graced the stage over the two-day span and numerous vendors offered freshly-made delicacies, traditional spices and beverages.

Oldach Marketing and Business Development Director Sergio Sanjenis and Marketing Coordinator Bianca Rios traveled from Puerto Rico to help local branch managers Freddy Villalona (Orlando) and Jesus Quiles (Kissimmee) and their teams set up and man the Oldach/Ducane exhibit.

“We once again had the opportunity to increase Ducane brand awareness and Oldach as a distributor to the Hispanic community living in Central Florida with a larger 20X10 booth, banners, flags, videos and promotional items,” Sergio stated. “We gave away one Ducane mini-split system and many surprises to everyone that came to say hello and to learn more about Oldach & Ducane.”

Glenn Paetow of Allied, Ramon Chicon of Chicon Services and Daniel Padin of PD Mechanical Services also attended, helping inform the public about Ducane’s comfort product offerings.
