Three engineering and construction firms headquartered in Central Pennsylvania have formed the Healthy Spaces Initiative (HSI), a partnership creating cleaner indoor spaces that mitigate the spread of disease through a combination of advanced technology and proven sanitation products. Founded by Enginuity, and joined by JEM Group and SECCO, the Healthy Spaces Initiative is built on a recognition that the market lacks a service provider that helps businesses meet consumers’ demand for cleaner, healthier spaces in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We just want to provide our employees with the healthiest possible working environment,” said Greg Gunn, managing partner at Gunn-Mowery Insurance. “That’s why we’re investing to outfit our Lemoyne office with the necessary equipment and technology to make them feel safe and keep them healthy.”

Equipment being installed in the Gunn-Mowery offices includes a bipolar ionization system, antimicrobial lighting systems, hands-free bathroom fixtures, as well as updates to hardware on doors and entry points.

Americans are concerned with healthy spaces more than any other time in recent history, according to research from Kelton Global. Seventy-four percent of Americans say extra cleaning and disinfection efforts are compelling actions companies can take, and 56% of Americans expect more hygienic practices to stick around into the future after the pandemic has passed. HSI is currently undertaking the largest research study to date on consumer sentiment around returning to public spaces and specific steps businesses can take to create healthy spaces.
