Franklin Controls Systems, a subsidiary of Franklin Electric, has won an R&D 100 award for the development of the Q-Link Variable Frequency Drive, an innovative VFD that leverages smartphone technology to enhance user experience. It’s the first R&D 100 award for Franklin Control Systems, and second for Franklin Electric.
Known as the “Oscars of Innovation,” the R&D 100 Awards are among the most prestigious international innovation awards. The 100 most technologically significant products introduced to the marketplace were recognized.
“We’re honored to receive an R&D 100 award, this is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the hard work our team has put into developing this revolutionary drive,” stated Travis Wood, President of Franklin Control Systems. “Leveraging the technology and usability of a smartphone allowed us to enhance the user experience in a multitude of ways, and we believe the Q-Link is a giant leap forward from traditional VFDs in terms of set up, support, safety, and general usability. This award affirms that belief.”
Winning in the IT/Electrical category, the Q-link connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth® and allows for guided start-up, automated reports, in-app support, and enhanced safety. This connectivity and functionality transforms the way that people interact with drives, and can save hours or even days when compared to the setup of a traditional VFD.
