The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) announced the Lake of the Ozarks Propane Inspiration Home as 2020’s Residential Propane Project of the Year, an annual contest that recognizes the best residential and commercial projects being powered by propane.

The project is the latest in a series of Inspiration Homes developed by Dave Leathers, president of Showcase Publishing, to promote his Second Home Living magazine, generate proceeds for a local nonprofit, and demonstrate the possibilities for vacation homebuyers considering moving to the area full time.

This home, which benefited the Share the Harvest Food Pantry, was built in partnership with the Missouri Propane Education & Research Council (MOPERC) to show how a propane home’s energy efficiency, independence, and low maintenance are attractive features for the area’s new full-time residents.

The Lake of the Ozarks Propane Inspiration Home includes:

• Two Rheem high-efficiency propane furnaces rated at 95 percent AFUE.
• A Navien propane tankless water heater that saves the homeowner approximately 13 to 20 percent in annual energy costs compared to an electric unit, while reducing the home’s carbon footprint.
• A Wolf gas cooking range, equipped with six burners, infrared griddle, and convection oven – all staples in a modern kitchen.
• A Napoleon propane fireplace, giving the homeowner a cozy ambiance and real flame without the hassle and mess of burning wood.
• A Champion propane standby generator, providing quiet, reliable power — even when the power lines go down.
• A built-in Coyote propane grill, enhancing the home’s outdoor living space, which overlooks the Lake of the Ozarks.

“This home truly adopted propane as its go-to fuel to create an efficient and energy saving combination,” said contest judge Matt Evans, building systems analyst and certified HERS rater at Newport Ventures. “Overall, this home utilizes propane to its fullest extent possible with energy efficiency and security in mind.”
