Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US Announces ecodan® Single-Phase Air-to-Water Product Line

March 03, 2026

Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC(METUS), a leading supplier of all-electric, all-climate Ductless and Ducted Mini-split and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) heat-pump and air-conditioning systems, today announced the introduction of ecodan® single-phase air-to-water (ATW) heat pump product line designed for hydronic heating and cooling and domestic hot water (DHW) applications.

ecodan® Outdoor Unit

The ecodan product line represents Mitsubishi Electric’s unwavering commitment to sustainable hydronic heating and cooling solutions for single-phase applications. Engineered to deliver comfort, efficiency, and reliability, ecodan systems utilize advanced air-to-water heat pump technology, offering customers a modern alternative to traditional boilers. These systems distribute heating and cooling through radiators, underfloor heating, or fan coils, and can also provide domestic hot water, acting as a complete solution for year-round comfort.

With a compact, discreet design harmonized for diverse spaces and quiet operation between 43 and 49 dB(A), ecodan units are designed for those seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and energy use without compromising on performance. The product line features hyper-heating technology for reliable operation even in low ambient temperatures, smart controls to reduce energy use, and an installation and maintenance conscious design with an all-in-one Hydrobox.

Customers may be able to access regional incentives and benefit from the peace of mind that comes with choosing independent installers that participate in the Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor® Program. The ecodan portfolio is designed to meet the evolving needs of the U.S. market, supporting the transition to home heating and cooling solutions that are more sustainable than traditional hydronic systems.

“Traditional hydronic systems in homes use oil, propane, or natural gas,” said Brinnon Williams, Vice President of Residential Business, METUS. “Mitsubishi Electric’s ecodan® ATW heat pumps use electricity instead, making them perfect for homeowners embracing more sustainable options for heating and cooling their homes and for DHW uses.”

ecodan® Hydrobox

The all-electric, hydronic ecodan system provides comprehensive year-round comfort for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water for residential or light commercial applications.

The ecodan ATW heat pumps use a hydronic distribution system to heat and cool the home through hydronic emitters. METUS will offer three Hyper-Heating INVERTER® (H2i®) WUZ outdoor models – with two-, three-, and four-ton capacities – with heating operation down to -22°F and 100% heating capacity at 5°F. The all-climate heat pumps have a maximum flow temperature of 158°F and observable performance in low ambient temperature.

The benefits are clear to experienced HVAC contractors such as Kim Bergeron, Chief Operating Officer of Bergeron Mechanical Systems, who installed Mitsubishi Electric’s ecodan system in his own home to replace gas-fired boilers.

“There’s a significant reduction in our energy usage, and the comfort level is unmatched,” said Bergeron. “Our home never deviated from temperature, even when it hit -10°F outside.”

The ecodan product line will also include an all-in-one indoor Hydrobox compatible with all three outdoor units. The Hydrobox includes all key water circuit components, including the pumps, expansion vessel, magnetic filter, booster heater, and plate heat exchanger. A quick setup guide is included with the Hydrobox to facilitate installation.

Conventional hydronic systems employ water piping between outdoor and indoor units, which often requires glycol in low-temperatures applications. Glycol can be messy, requires extra componentry, and introduces additional leak points resulting in more maintenance. Mitsubishi Electric ecodan systems instead use refrigerant piping to connect outdoor and indoor units, eliminating those maintenance requirements.

Additional features of the ecodan product line include:

  • An optional, indirect 60- or 85-gallon DHW tank
  • Boiler interlock with smart auxiliary/back-up control
  • Controller with intuitive user interface (touch and color screen)
  • Flow Temperature Control board with multiple inputs/outputs to control third-party components
  • Anti-vibration structure of the outdoor unit to help reduce operating noise and achieve whisper-quiet (below 25 decibels) operation
