Lawson Air Conditioning & Plumbing is proud to be celebrating its 75th Anniversary! Lawson Air Conditioning & Plumbing was founded in 1946 by Lester Dean (L.D.) Lawson after he returned home from WWII at the age of 26.

Lawson Air Conditioning & Plumbing and L.D. Lawson pioneered the HVAC industry in 1946 in North Georgia. L.D. installed the first air conditioning unit in Hall County for the Diana Shop, a ladies’ apparel store on the downtown Gainesville square.

In 1948, then named Lawson Heating & Air Conditioning, became a Carrier dealer and today, 73 years later, is recognized as Georgia’s oldest single-line dealer.

In 1956, Lawson earned his conditioned air license from the state of Georgia, and later that year was awarded his first Carrier Weathermaker Hall of Fame award. In 1958, Lawson Air Conditioning moved to its Dorsey Street location where it continues to do business today.

In 1983, Lawson’s son-in-law, Vince Davis, began working at Lawson Air Conditioning, and his daughter, Debbie Lawson Davis, started with the company in 1985. Their sons, Taylor joined the company in 2013 and Travis, joined the family business in 2012. Travis’s wife, Ashley Davis became H.R. and Marketing Director in 2015 to round out the third-generation leadership.

Lawson Air Conditioning & Plumbing, Inc. earned the Carrier Distinguished Dealer Award in 1994 and 1996. In 2009, the business became a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer and has earned the Carrier President’s Award in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. Lawson Air Conditioning & Plumbing has earned many awards in recognition for community involvement including the 2005 Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Family Business of the Year.

In 2018, L.D. Lawson was posthumously inducted into the Carrier Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution and service to the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry, his customers and community. The Carrier Hall of Fame is the highest individual honor achievable in the industry.

I do feel my father, our founder, would be proud of the progress we have made, and I am so grateful for the legacy he left behind. I am often reminded of Daddy’s dedication and love for the mechanical industry in the way we operate now. Many ideals he [L.D. Lawson] set forth in 1946 are ideals we operate by today – our creed is a fine example of this. I am proud of the team we have at Lawson and feel we are well equipped to always serve our partners, customers, and vendors with the highest caliber of service.”
